"Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." 1 Thess 5.16-18, NRSV
"Prayer is life. It is not an oasis in the desert of life." St Titus Brandsma, Notes for a Retreat, p. 198
Lay Carmelites live a life of intense prayer: personal, communal, liturgical, and informal, with an emphasis not in much thinking, but in much loving.
Our Rule is Christocentric and steeped in liturgical and private prayer.Â
Lay Carmelites have family, work, and other responsibilities. Their daily prayer, when possible, consists of:
Celebration of the Eucharist
Liturgy of the Hours
silent Scripture-based prayer, such as lectio divina
An ordo lists the celebration for each day. Our Community Ordo uses the most genuine celebrations from the Church, Order, and National calendars.
